Policy and Advocacy
The Declaration of Respect is a movement for systemic change in law enforcement, aimed at fostering human dignity, accountability, and community trust.
Objective:
The primary objective of the Declaration of Respect is to influence local, state, and national policies that support its principles of promoting human dignity, accountability, and community trust in law enforcement. By advocating for progressive reforms, the Declaration aims to establish a model of policing that upholds respect and justice for all citizens, ensuring law enforcement practices are rooted in transparency and responsibility.
Synopsis:
Through comprehensive policy and advocacy efforts, the Declaration of Respect seeks to create long-term systemic change by promoting the values of respect, accountability, and transparency in policing. The movement is dedicated to influencing policy changes across various levels of government, pushing for reforms that build safe, more equitable communities.
Action:
To drive change, we are working closely with local and state officials to advocate for the adoption of the Declaration of Respect across police departments. This includes meeting with elected leaders, participating in public hearings, and proposing policy changes that embed respect-based policing practices into law enforcement procedures. Additionally, we are collaborating with state legislators to explore the possibility of making Colorado the first state to formally adopt the Declaration of Respect as part of its policing standards, further solidifying the movement's impact.
